Session 3 - Our Story

Welcome to the third session of the Discover A(D) workshop. This session is called Our Story. Below is a list of what to expect from Session 3, how to prepare for it, and some pro tips to help you as you walk through it.

  • Session 3 - Our Story - From Session 3, you can expect:

    • An explanation of all the ways our identities in Christ are distorted

    • A reading of Max Lucado’s You Are Special

    • A self-reflection on how both negative labels and accolades have shaped our identity

    • A listening exercise designed to give space to hear what God thinks of you and then own it

    • A chance to articulate a unique and personal Identity Statement detailing who God says you are

  • Preparing for Session 3

    • Review the breakout questions for the session.

    • Spend time with Jesus praying for your Team.

  • Pro Tips for Session 3

    • Be aware that during this session, two songs will be played, one at the beginning and one at the end. Do the prep work and set tech up beforehand to avoid any technical issues during the session.

    • In this session, your Team will participate in a listening prayer exercise. Preview the session video and spend time praying for your Team so that you are comfortable leading them through this exercise.

    • Your Team will begin drafting their Identity Statement. An Identity Statement is not about what we do; it’s about who we are. People often get anxious and want to jump forward to explore what God wants them to do. What we do, however, comes out of who we are. For that reason, keep your Team in the space of seeking God about who they are in Christ.

    • The Identity Statements that your Team members craft in Session 3 are beginning drafts, a first step. Understanding that this statement is the first draft will help them overcome the feelings of having to get it “right” on their first try. This mindset will free them to move forward.

    • Connect with your Team during the week to see how they experienced this session. You will be able to identify who might need additional help crafting their Identity Statement.
