Step Four: ACTIVATE(D) Team Series
Session I: the vision
Session I - The Vision
Welcome to Session I - The Vision. Find this session’s summary and objectives, key ideas and highlights, and pro tips for facilitating below.
Session I Summary and Objectives
Summary: An introduction to one another, an explanation of the A(D) Team meeting format, and a chance to further pursue the vision to see Christ glorified in whole neighborhoods and networks of new disciples.
Objectives:
To grow our desire for a vision of making the Good News of Jesus (intentionally) unavoidable to the people God has given us compassion (or love) for.
To be connected with other people who are committed to the same vision for themselves.
Key Ideas and Highlights of Session I
The vision we want to encourage people to have is, first and foremost, a vision for Jesus. More than anything else, we want to see Christ glorified in whatever context or space the Lord is leading your Team into.
We want to bless and encourage people to stretch their thinking. For many, a vision of seeing Christ glorified among those who do not yet know Jesus is unfamiliar. The vision does not have to be complicated, like starting a new ministry. It can be as simple as loving the neighbor next door. Wherever Team members find themselves, encourage them to follow Jesus past their comfort zone.
For many people, the word discipleship brings to mind helping those who already know Christ to follow Him more fully. What’s different about the A(D) Team Series is that our vision is to see Christ glorified among new disciples of Jesus. It begins with loving those who don’t know Him yet and sharing the love we’ve received from God with them. It continues by walking with them as they grow more in love with Jesus. Studies show that 60% of the population will never walk inside what we call a church. For that reason, we want to intentionally make Jesus and His love unavoidable in those places and spaces.
Pro Tips for Facilitating Session I
Help your Team see that the vision we are longing for begins with Christ’s being glorified. Then, after Jesus is at the center of our focus, we can begin looking out toward those He is calling us to.
Give your Team permission to be curious and dream about what God might do for the people He has placed on their hearts. They don’t have to have all the answers now. We want them to stay curious. We want them to stay close to Jesus. And we want them to catch God’s heart and dream for those who don’t yet know Him.
To set your Team up well, connect with them and help them clarify their Identity and Impact Statements before discussing Session I - The Vision. The Impact Statements and Identity Statements your Team has developed will grow and evolve over time; that’s to be expected. Being as clear as they can before starting the A(D) Team Series will help them get the most out of this experience.
