Step Two: Leading Discover A(D)

discover A(D) overview

Before the First Session of Discover A(D)

You’re almost ready! Before you lead your Team through Session 1 of Discover A(D), please:

  1. Commit to pray - One of our mottos is, “...before you talk to your people, talk to God about your people.” Without God, we can’t do anything! As a Coach, not only do we want to be reminded of this, but we want to model it. Remember, people are molded into what you model. When we pray for people, they see us in a posture of dependency on God. This same posture will help them depend on the Lord as God speaks to them through Discover A(D)! So, go ahead and be that model, and may your actions speak louder than your words.

  2. Connect with your people - It sounds simple, right? And yet, simply connecting and building relationships with the people you’re leading makes a big difference in how they experience Discover A(D). Programs don’t disciple people; people disciple people. So, go for it and make it a priority to connect with your Team!

  3. Communicate and set expectations - It is important to “front-load” and share with people what to expect through this process. This will help people avoid the disappointment of unmet or assumed expectations and get the most out of this experience.

    • Emphasize the importance of engaging in all four Discover A(D) workshops.

    • Share with them that you, as a Coach, are their point-person for questions.

    • Let them know you are available for them through this process, to connect between sessions, give opportunity for them to process what God is doing in them, and to pray with/for them through it. (Consider giving specifics on how and when you can be reached between sessions).

  • Pro Tips for Starting Well

    • If your Team is meeting via Zoom, please make sure they’ve registered, have the Zoom link (which will come to them in an email from ACTIVATE(D) staff), and purchase the materials needed for the storyboard exercise.

    • The Disciple-Maker Team Training itself is not discipling your Team; God is, and He is using you. Discipleship happens through relationships. For that reason, as you begin this journey with your Team, be mindful of modeling this principle with them. Through your relationship, point them to Jesus. Our prayer is that your Team would not feel like they are experiencing another program, rather that they would have a genuine discipleship experience.
